Shawa, whose real name is Ssali Shaufaruh, is identified as a Ugandan creative artist. According to his artist biography published by Dream Code Xclusive, he was born in the Bombo/Kalule area and raised in Nansana, Wakiso District. His background includes studies at Nansana Central Academy, Alliance High School in Nansana and Ngando Senior Secondary School, before he pursued technical training in mechanical engineering at City Polytechnic Institute in Kyengera.

Although Shawa has been associated with entertainment and comedy, his growing presence in music has added another dimension to his public profile. His music catalogue includes songs such as “Pretty,” “Confess,” “Sikiwa,” “Nkwiine,” “Yoyo,” “Aizire,” “Together” and “Company,” among others listed on Dream Code Xclusive.

One of the clearest indicators of Shawa’s growing musical visibility is his appearance on Howwe Uganda’s Hot 100 chart. The chart currently lists “Sumaiya” by Shawa at number 28, while “Pretty luxx,” also credited to Shawa, appears at number 44. The listings place his songs alongside releases from established Ugandan acts, providing measurable evidence of his current presence on the country’s music scene.

Howwe’s broader Ugandan music catalogue also lists Shawa among artists whose work is being tracked on the platform. Its artist directory currently identifies Shawa as having two songs listed, while the music section includes “Sumaiya Shawa” among its featured new songs.

Shawa’s growing visibility has also extended beyond music. In June 2026, entertainment publication Sqoop reported that content creator Anthony Katongole, popularly known as Chicken Chicken, had allegedly been arrested following a confrontation involving Shawa. The report said the dispute had attracted significant attention on social media and that a vehicle belonging to Shawa was allegedly vandalised during the fallout. Police had not issued an official statement on the matter at the time of the report, according to Sqoop.

The combination of music releases, chart appearances and social-media visibility has helped push Shawa further into Uganda’s entertainment spotlight. His presence on the Howwe Hot 100 is particularly significant because it offers a public measure of how his music is performing within a platform that tracks popular Ugandan songs.

For an artist still expanding his musical catalogue, the chart placements represent an important development. Rather than relying solely on his popularity as an entertainer, Shawa is increasingly establishing himself through recorded music and is beginning to compete for attention in Uganda’s crowded music industry.

His rise also reflects the increasingly blurred boundaries within Uganda’s entertainment sector, where comedians, content creators and social-media personalities are increasingly crossing into music and building audiences across several platforms.

With “Sumaiya” and “Pretty luxx” currently appearing on the Howwe Hot 100, Shawa is firmly part of the current conversation around Uganda’s emerging music acts. Whether his momentum develops into sustained chart success will depend on future releases, audience response and continued visibility in the country’s competitive entertainment market.
