Following the success of the inaugural edition held on January 3, the second edition is being positioned as more than a cultural gathering. It is a celebration of shared identity, brotherhood and the values that bring Ugandans together despite their different backgrounds.

The carnival is hosted under the leadership of Frank Gashumba, Chairman of the Council for Abavandimwe, whose vision is centred on promoting unity, peace, cultural pride and a stronger sense of belonging among Ugandans.

A Celebration of Unity

The maiden edition brought together thousands of people for a colourful showcase of music, traditional performances, culture and community solidarity.

Building on that foundation, the second edition seeks to take the experience to another level while placing greater emphasis on the role of culture in strengthening national cohesion.

At its heart is the belief that Uganda’s diversity should be celebrated as a source of strength. Through music, dance, fashion, food and storytelling, the carnival provides a platform for people to reconnect with their heritage while celebrating what they share as Ugandans.

Keeping Culture Alive

A major part of the carnival will be the preservation and promotion of traditional culture, with traditional dance groups expected to showcase performances including Amaraba and Inyamibwa styles.

The event will also bring together artists, performers and cultural enthusiasts, creating an environment where younger generations can experience and appreciate traditions that have been passed down through generations.

For the organisers, cultural preservation is not simply about looking back. It is about ensuring that Uganda’s heritage remains relevant and continues to shape the country’s future.

More Than a Carnival

The second edition is expected to feature leading Ugandan and regional musical acts alongside traditional performers and other cultural showcases.

However, beyond the entertainment, the central message remains one of togetherness.

Gashumba has repeatedly emphasised the importance of building a Uganda in which citizens feel valued, respected and proud of who they are and where they come from.

That message gives the Abavandimwe Carnival a broader purpose: using culture as a meeting point for communities, generations and identities.

Whether people attend to reconnect with their roots, enjoy music and dance, experience traditional culture or simply spend time with family and friends, the second edition is shaping up to be a major celebration of Uganda’s cultural diversity.

With more details on the venue, date and programme expected from the organisers, anticipation is already building for an event that seeks to remind Ugandans of a simple idea: our differences can be celebrated, while our shared identity can bring us together.
