Rubanda, Uganda — Construction of a multi-purpose building at St. John’s SS Ikumba in Hamurwa Town Council, Rubanda District, has reached 90% completion.
The project is expected to provide additional learning and administrative facilities to the school and help address congestion currently affecting the institution.
Rubanda District LC5 Chairperson Ampeire Stephen Kasyaba has commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for appointing Hon. Henry Musasizi to the Ministry of Finance, saying the appointment enabled local leaders to lobby for the project.
“Had it not been the President who appointed Minister Musasizi as Finance Minister, we would not have got this building,” Kasyaba said.
He assured the community that the remaining works would be completed.
According to the project supervisor, Eng. Bridget Natweeta, construction is currently at 90% and is being implemented in two phases.
She said the ongoing works include walling, installation of doors and windows, and roofing.
The Director of Geses Uganda Ltd, Eng. Peter Nkurunungi, said the completed facility will include three science laboratories for computer science, chemistry and physics, as well as a library.
The building will also have four classrooms, an administration block and a self-contained headteacher’s office.
Nkurunungi said the provision of a self-contained office for the headteacher would also help address concerns over visitors having to share washroom facilities with students and teachers.
The school headteacher, Ms. Ampeire Odeith, thanked President Museveni for appointing Hon. Musasizi to the Ministry of Finance and commended the minister for lobbying for the construction of the multi-purpose block.
She said the new facility would help ease classroom congestion, strengthen science teaching and provide a better learning environment for both learners and teachers.
