Sejusa said there should be no alarm over the clearing of items from the palace, explaining that royal residences are often renovated and prepared for new occupants.

His comments came after videos and claims circulated showing some parts of Karuziika Palace appearing empty, with allegations that Queen Mother Best Kemigisa was removing curtains and other items from the royal residence.

Omuhamba Businge Akiiki shared footage on social media showing empty windows inside the palace, claiming that items were being removed ahead of the new king’s arrival.

However, Gen Sejusa dismissed concerns surrounding the development, saying preparing a residence for a new occupant is a common practice in many institutions.

“It is standard practice to clear out all the old stuff and fully refurbish the palace for the incoming king,” Sejusa said.

He explained that similar arrangements happen in state houses and other official residences whenever new leaders or occupants take over, including renovations of floors, ceilings and other facilities.

Sejusa added that traditionally, new kings would enter completely new palaces while older residences remained available for ceremonial purposes.

The preparations at Karuziika Palace come ahead of the coronation of King Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, which is scheduled for September 29, 2026, in Fort Portal City.

Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I was selected by Tooro’s Babiito ruling clan to succeed the late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, who passed away on August 27, 2026. His succession has attracted discussions from different members of the royal family and the public.
