The world is mourning the passing of Tooro King Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, a monarch who made history by becoming one of the youngest kings in modern times.
King Oyo’s journey to the throne began at an age when most children were still learning basic skills and enjoying childhood, but he carried the responsibility of leading a kingdom from just three years old.
Born on April 16, 1992, Oyo became the King of Tooro following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick David Matthew Kaboyo Olimi II, who passed away in 1995.
On September 12, 1995, the young prince was officially enthroned as the Omukama of Tooro at the age of about three years and four months.
His coronation attracted attention from across Uganda and beyond because he became one of the youngest reigning monarchs in the world.
At only three years old, King Oyo could not personally handle the full responsibilities of leadership, and a council of regents was established to guide the affairs of the kingdom until he was old enough to take full control.
The young king grew up under the care of royal advisers, family members and kingdom officials who helped protect the traditions and responsibilities attached to the Tooro throne.

As he grew older, Oyo gradually took on more duties and began representing the kingdom at public functions, cultural events and national ceremonies.
In 2010, when he turned 18, King Oyo officially began exercising more direct responsibilities as the leader of Tooro Kingdom.
His journey from a child king to a mature cultural leader became one of the most remarkable stories in Uganda’s history.
For more than three decades, King Oyo remained a symbol of Tooro’s heritage, identity and unity, representing the hopes and aspirations of his people.
Throughout his reign, he worked to promote education, youth empowerment, tourism and development initiatives aimed at improving the lives of people in the kingdom.
Despite inheriting the throne at such a young age, Oyo managed to carry the weight of leadership through different stages of his life.
His reign witnessed major changes in society, technology and culture, but he remained committed to preserving the traditions of the Babiito royal family.

The news of his death at the age of 34 has brought deep sorrow to Tooro, Uganda and many people around the world who followed his unique journey.
Many have remembered him not only as a king who made history as a child monarch but also as a leader who dedicated much of his life to serving his kingdom.
His passing marks the end of a historic chapter that began when a three-year-old child inherited one of Uganda’s oldest traditional institutions.
As the people of Tooro continue mourning, attention now turns to preserving the legacy of King Oyo and ensuring the continuity of the royal institution.
The late monarch’s story will remain one of the most extraordinary examples of leadership, responsibility and tradition in modern African history.
May the soul of Omukama Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV rest in eternal peace, and may his legacy continue to inspire generations to come.

May his soul rest in peace Amen, God be with him till we meet again
