The public disagreement between Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba and State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere has intensified after Gen Muhoozi issued a seven-day ultimatum demanding an apology from the minister.
Gen Muhoozi made the statement on Wednesday through his official X account, saying that Nameere had seven days to apologise to him or face unspecified consequences.
“I’m giving Nameere exactly seven days to apologise to me. If she doesn’t, nothing will save her,” Gen Muhoozi wrote in the early hours of September 16, 2026.
The deadline issued by the UPDF chief is expected to expire on September 23, adding another chapter to the public disagreement involving the two National Resistance Movement (NRM) figures.
The dispute follows controversy surrounding a short video clip that circulated online and appeared to show Minister Nameere warning Gen Muhoozi against attacking NRM legislators.
However, a longer version of the video later emerged, showing that Nameere was reportedly addressing Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General Daudi Kabanda rather than Gen Muhoozi.
The shorter clip that circulated online appeared to have removed the section where Kabanda was identified as the person being addressed, leading to different interpretations of Nameere’s remarks.

The controversy attracted attention from political circles, with supporters and observers debating the context of the statements made in the video.
Gen Muhoozi later warned that Nameere could lose her cabinet position if she was found to be acting against expectations.
“If Nameere is misbehaving, it’s a very simple problem. We shall remove her from cabinet. That’s a very simple thing,” he stated.
He also said that changes within government were possible, arguing that ministers who fail to serve public interests could be replaced.
“Changing or dropping a minister who is not serving our people’s interests is the easiest thing. In this Kisanja we shall drop and reshuffle many,” Gen Muhoozi said.
The disagreement also drew comments from Daudi Kabanda, who questioned aspects surrounding Nameere’s election as Masaka City Woman MP.
Kabanda claimed that Nameere did not win the election fairly and called for a by-election, a claim that has added further political tension around the matter.
The latest confrontation comes after another disagreement involving Nameere and Gen Muhoozi over a separate edited video that circulated online.
The earlier clip appeared to connect Nameere to discussions about a proposed celebration for former Speaker Anita Among.
Nameere later explained that the video had been taken from a longer recording made on May 6, 2026, where she was speaking about business opportunities during political events.
She said her remarks were directed at young entrepreneurs, encouraging them to take advantage of opportunities available during major gatherings and ceremonies.
The minister explained that she had mentioned opportunities for decorators, fashion designers, make-up artists and hairdressers who could benefit from events organised by political leaders.
Nameere accused unnamed individuals of editing videos and presenting them in a way that could create misunderstandings and damage relationships.
She also defended her relationship with Gen Muhoozi, saying they had known each other from their university days, media circles and PLU mobilisation activities in Greater Masaka.
The minister has not publicly responded to the latest seven-day ultimatum issued by Gen Muhoozi at the time of publication.
The disagreement has continued to attract attention because both figures hold influential positions within Uganda’s political landscape and the NRM-related movements.
As the deadline approaches, attention remains focused on whether Minister Nameere will respond to Gen Muhoozi’s demand and how the dispute will develop in the coming days.
