Five Kisoro District Local Government officials have been detained over allegations of soliciting and receiving money from job applicants in exchange for purported assistance in securing employment within the district.
The arrests were carried out earlier today by the Anti-Graft team in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID).
Those detained include Hakizimana Amos, the Kisoro District Speaker; Nshaka Erastus, Chairperson of the District Service Commission (DSC); Turamuhawe Richard, a DSC member; Mfitumukiza John, a district councillor; and Muhanika Alphonse, who is alleged to have acted as a broker or middleman.
Two other suspects, Francesca Mugisha, the DSC Secretary, and Matata Alex, a teacher and alleged middleman, are reportedly on the run.
Preliminary investigations indicate that between October and December 2025, the suspects, together with others still at large, allegedly solicited and received approximately Shs 200 million from various job applicants in exchange for assistance in securing jobs in the district.
Investigations are reportedly at an advanced stage, and upon completion, the suspects are expected to be charged before the Anti-Corruption Court on corruption-related charges.
Authorities have also called upon members of the public who may have been asked to pay money for jobs in Kisoro District to come forward and report their cases to investigators.
The arrests come amid continued efforts by authorities to crack down on corruption and the alleged commercialization of public employment opportunities.
