KAMPALA — The Inspectorate of Government (IG) has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law, promoting accountability and combating corruption as key pillars of good governance in Uganda.
The commitment was reiterated during the launch of the Uganda Law Society State of the Rule of Law Report for the First and Second Quarters of 2026, held at the Uganda Law Society House under the theme “Resist Lawlessness.”
Representing the Inspector General of Government, Lady Justice Naluzze Aisha Batala, Director of Legal Affairs Hilda Talibba said the Inspectorate’s core mission is to promote good governance and ensure strict adherence to the rule of law and principles of natural justice.
Talibba said the Directorate of Legal Affairs plays a critical role in advancing the Inspectorate’s mandate through litigation and prosecution in courts of law, as well as the management and coordination of asset recovery.
She said recovering public resources and prosecuting cases involving abuse of office are among the key interventions through which the Inspectorate promotes its values of integrity, professionalism and impartiality while contributing to access to justice for Ugandans.
Also speaking at the event, Angella Tusiime, a Principal Inspectorate Officer, called for collective vigilance in the fight against corruption and lawlessness.
Tusiime said resisting lawlessness requires the active participation of citizens and institutions, noting that combating corruption is essential to ensuring that public institutions serve citizens fairly and transparently.
She further emphasised the importance of teamwork and citizen engagement in efforts to build a just and corruption-free Uganda.
The Uganda Law Society Vice President, Anthony Asiimwe, urged institutions and citizens to speak out against impunity, stressing that members of the legal profession should not remain silent in the face of lawlessness.
Uganda Law Society Chief Executive Officer Christine Adeti said the report provides an evidence-based framework for promoting informed public dialogue on the state of the rule of law in the country.
The Inspectorate of Government said it remains committed to working with partners in the justice, law and order sector to enforce the law, protect public resources and strengthen accountability and the rule of law in Uganda.
