Opportunities knock once, not twice, and this is what has happened in Teso. The President, who is the appointing authority, picked the current Member of Parliament for City West, Mr. Calvin David Ecodu, as State Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Yes, there were issues regarding his dual citizenship, which was not the big issue, but now the biggest issue is how a section of the Iteso leaders are working very hard to complicate the swearing-in of Mr. Ecodu as State Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Their argument is that when Ecodu takes up the ministry, that will be the end of their relevance before the President. The detractors are moving door to door with the aim of complicating the status of Mr. Ecodu so that he does not take the oath.
In most of the meetings that they have so far held in various hotels, such as Royal Suites in Bugolobi, Serena Hotel, and Munyonyo, attended by only Iteso leaders, the complaint is how Mr. Ecodu, being elected for the first time, can be appointed as a minister, yet some of them have spent many years without any appointment.
The politicians in Teso now see Mr. Ecodu, who is also the National Vice Chairperson of NRM Eastern Region, as a total threat to their friendship with President Museveni.
