KAMPALA, Uganda — The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has appointed Brigadier Oscar Munanura as the new Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security (CDIS), following his promotion to the rank of Acting Major General.
The appointment was announced on Tuesday in a press statement issued by Colonel Chris Magezi, the Acting Director of Defence Public Information at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/UPDF.
According to the statement, the promotion and appointment were made by the Chief of Defence Forces and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
Munanura previously served as Deputy Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security under Major General Richard Otto, who is leaving the position after being seconded to the Joint Staff Human Resource Management for redeployment.
The UPDF congratulated Munanura on his promotion and appointment, expressing confidence as he takes on his new responsibilities within the military leadership.
The army also commended Major General Otto for his work during his tenure as Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security and wished both officers success in their new assignments.
The changes form part of the latest leadership adjustments within the UPDF, although the statement did not provide further details about the officers’ new duties or the timing of the handover.
