The engagements focused on international health cooperation, diaspora participation in healthcare development and the importance of sustained investment in global health, according to Mulimira.

The summit is scheduled for March 15–19, 2027, with activities planned across Cardiff, London and Edinburgh under the theme “Unlocking the Health Dividend.” The programme is expected to feature an opening plenary followed by four days of satellite events.

Mulimira Explores Health Cooperation with Saudi Arabia

Mulimira said his meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Health Attaché in London provided an opportunity to discuss his work in global health and explore potential areas of collaboration ahead of the summit.

“Looking forward to collaborating with the Saudi Arabia Government on the exciting UK Global Health Summit 2027 in London,” Mulimira said following the engagement.

The discussions come as international health stakeholders seek to strengthen partnerships and identify opportunities for cooperation in addressing healthcare challenges.

In a separate engagement, Mulimira met philanthropist Bill Gates to discuss his diaspora health work and the importance of maintaining investment in healthcare initiatives.

Mulimira also expressed appreciation for the Gates Foundation’s $912 million pledge to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for the 2026–2028 funding cycle. The foundation announced the commitment in September 2025.

“We agreed to continue the dialogue on global health, especially at the next UK Global Health Summit 2027 in London,” Mulimira said.

The Global Fund supports efforts to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria, while investments in health systems and partnerships remain important to improving healthcare delivery in affected communities.

Ugandan Diaspora Professionals at the Centre of Health Partnerships

Mulimira serves as Diaspora Engagement Advisor at Global Health Partnerships, formerly known as the Tropical Health and Education Trust. He leads the organisation’s Experts in Our Midst and Voices diaspora programmes, alongside broader diaspora engagement initiatives.

The programmes seek to recognise and promote the knowledge, skills and experience that diaspora healthcare professionals contribute to health services and international health partnerships.

For Uganda, Mulimira’s work connects healthcare professionals living abroad with institutions and initiatives at home.

His background includes co-founding the Uganda Diaspora Health Foundation and participating in a health partnership linking East London NHS services with Butabika Hospital in Uganda.

His latest engagements with diplomatic representatives and international philanthropy bring the contribution of diaspora professionals into wider discussions about global health cooperation, investment and healthcare development.

2027 Summit Builds on Earlier Health Partnerships

The upcoming summit follows previous gatherings that brought together policymakers, healthcare professionals, researchers and diaspora organisations to discuss health cooperation and sustainable partnerships.

Organisers say the 2025 UK–Africa Health Summit attracted more than 750 participants over three days. Its outcomes included a policy paper on equitable partnerships and commitments to longer-term cooperation on the health workforce.

The UK Global Health Summit held in March 2026 continued the discussions at the Royal College of Physicians in London under the theme “Shaping Tomorrow’s Health, Together.”

Promotional materials for the 2027 event list the Royal College of Nursing, King’s Global Health Partnerships, the Royal College of Physicians, Public Health Wales and the University of Edinburgh among the lead organising partners.

Students for Global Health is also listed as a partner, with additional participating organisations expected to be announced.

As preparations continue, Mulimira’s engagements highlight efforts to bring diaspora expertise, diplomatic relationships and philanthropic investment into discussions on the future of global health and international healthcare partnerships.
