Adokorach Irene has pledged to put the voices and concerns of Ugandan women at the centre of her leadership agenda as she seeks to become National Chairperson of the Women Council.
Irene says women are central to the strength and progress of families, communities and the country, arguing that their contribution should never be treated as secondary.
“Women are the pillars of any nation. It can develop if the women are empowered, and it can fail if they are treated as options,” Irene said.
She believes that empowering women should go beyond representation in leadership to include access to economic opportunities, support for mothers, participation in decision-making and policies that respond to the challenges women face.
Irene brings with her experience in politics and community leadership, having previously contested for the Kiryandongo District Woman Member of Parliament seat and the LC5 Chairperson position. She also served as an Office of the National Chairman (ONC) coordinator.
Her political experience, she says, has strengthened her understanding of the challenges facing women and communities and reinforced her desire to advocate for greater opportunities and representation.
As one of the contenders in the National Women’s Council chairperson race, Irene is positioning herself as a leader who wants to ensure that women have a stronger voice in matters affecting their lives and the development of their communities.
She says a country cannot achieve meaningful development while leaving a significant part of its population behind.
For Irene, empowering women means creating an environment where they can participate fully in economic, social and political development.
