Kasambya County MP and PLU official David Kabanda has broken his silence over claims that he played a role in the political troubles surrounding former Speaker Anita Among.
Kabanda said Among has allegedly been telling people that he is responsible for her downfall after he reportedly informed Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba that she wanted to become Uganda’s next president.
The legislator denied the allegations, saying he did not provide false information against Among or work to damage her political career.
In an interview, Kabanda said he had tried to remain respectful towards the former Speaker despite what he described as attacks against him.
He claimed that Among has continued portraying him as the person who created problems between her and powerful figures within the ruling establishment.
Kabanda said he was surprised by the accusations because he had previously supported efforts to help her, including assisting in situations involving her health challenges.

According to Kabanda, the issues surrounding Among were not caused by him but were based on wider political developments.
He also addressed Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s involvement, saying the General was acting based on directions from President Yoweri Museveni.
Kabanda argued that it was inaccurate for Among to suggest that her challenges came from information he allegedly gave Muhoozi while also maintaining that President Museveni had no issues with her.
He said the two positions contradict each other and questioned which version should be believed.
“She had been telling people how those soldiers at her home were deployed by the President to protect her against some PLU people wanting to harm her after I lied to them that she wants to be the next President,” Kabanda said.
He added that the claims surrounding her security situation and his alleged role in her troubles do not match.
Kabanda insisted that he has no personal disagreement with Among and would be ready to work with her again if assigned to serve under her leadership.
He said his willingness to cooperate with her proves that his actions were not driven by hatred or revenge.
The PLU official also said that any decision to give Among another government or party role would depend entirely on President Museveni.

He noted that if the President chooses to restore her to a powerful position, no individual within PLU would have the authority to block it.
Kabanda’s remarks have renewed debate about internal political disagreements and relationships among influential figures in Uganda’s ruling circles.
The exchange has attracted public attention because of the positions held by both Kabanda and Among within the country’s political landscape.
Supporters of the two figures have continued following the developments as new claims and responses emerge.
The controversy highlights ongoing discussions about influence, loyalty and power struggles within political circles.
For now, Kabanda’s statement has opened another chapter in the public debate over what led to Anita Among’s political challenges and who was responsible.
