The officials, led by Permanent Secretary Alfred Okidi Okoth, appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to respond to questions regarding the implementation and accountability of water projects, including the Wanyama Dam in Gulu and the Namalu Dam in Nakapiripirit.

During the session, Kilak County Member of Parliament Gilbert Olanya accused ministry officials of mismanaging funds meant for water projects.

“Mr Chair, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water should get serious because a lot of money is being abused,” he said.

After the officials reportedly failed to satisfy the committee on accountability, the PAC chairperson handed over three ministry officials to the police to record statements.

Further details regarding the projects, the funds in question and the police investigations are expected to emerge as the matter progresses.
