Hundreds of youth in the Teso sub-region under the Kazi ni Kazi pressure group have called on Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba to accept their request for a special endorsement event in Teso.

The youth say the endorsement event recently held in Kampala should be considered a Kampala-based event and that Teso deserves its own endorsement ceremony in Soroti City.

They argue that holding the event in Soroti would give the people of Teso an opportunity to directly express their support for Gen. Muhoozi and participate in activities aimed at promoting his political agenda.

Veteran journalist Steven Ariong said Gen. Muhoozi’s historical association with the people of Teso gives the region a strong reason to request a special endorsement event.

Ariong pointed to Gen. Muhoozi’s involvement in operations against the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) during the insurgency in Teso, saying he worked alongside the Teso Arrow Boys in efforts to flush out LRA fighters.

He said Soroti was an important base during the operations and argued that a special endorsement in the region would also provide an opportunity to remember Gen. Muhoozi’s role during that period.

“I feel there should be a special MK endorsement held in Teso in memory of Gen. MK’s efforts towards flushing out LRA leader Joseph Kony in Teso,” Ariong said.

Dan Mulalu, the founder of Kazi ni Kazi, also supported the proposal, calling for the endorsement to be decentralised and taken to different regions.

Mulalu said each region should have an opportunity to hold its own endorsement event in its major city or municipality so that local supporters who are expected to promote Gen. Muhoozi’s agenda can participate.

Richard Okwakol, another youth leader, questioned whether the people who attended the Kampala endorsement have the capacity and time to take the message to communities across the country.

He argued that holding regional endorsement events would allow local supporters to become more directly involved in mobilising communities and communicating Gen. Muhoozi’s political message.

The youth now want Gen. Muhoozi to consider Soroti as the venue for a special Teso endorsement, saying the region’s historical connection with him makes it important to his political mobilisation efforts.
