The horrifying incident happened at Kalungu Bunga, Ggaba Parish, Makindye Division in Kampala, where police responded to reports of children crying for help and an emergency alarm coming from a home.

According to police, the incident occurred at around 4:00am after a housemaid was awakened by unusual sounds coming from the main house.

Another child, seven-year-old Hawa Dalena, was found injured and rushed to Nsambya Hospital for treatment, but she later died while receiving medical attention.

Three other children aged 13, 8 and 5 years survived the attack and were taken to hospital where they are receiving treatment.

Police identified the prime suspect as 43-year-old Namayo Dorothy, a Kenyan national and the mother of the children.

Dorothy was also found injured after the incident and was taken to Mulago National Referral Hospital, where she remains under police guard as investigations continue.

Police said they are working to establish what exactly happened inside the home and the circumstances that led to the deadly attack.

The tragedy also involved a fire incident at the same residence, where a Toyota Hiace vehicle parked at the premises was set on fire and completely destroyed.

The Police Fire Prevention Rescue Services responded and managed to put out the fire before investigators began examining the scene.

A jerrycan suspected to have contained petrol was recovered from the scene and taken as an exhibit to assist detectives in their investigations.

The crime scene was secured as homicide detectives, Scene of Crime Officers and other specialists collected evidence and documented the area.

Police later transferred the bodies of the two deceased children, Khadija Daizy and Hawa Dalena, to Mulago City Mortuary for postmortem examinations.

Investigators have since recorded statements from witnesses, including the person who reported the incident, as they continue searching for answers.

The motive behind the attack remains unknown, with police saying investigations are ongoing to establish what led to the tragic events.

The case has left residents of Ggaba and surrounding areas in shock, with many struggling to understand how such a tragedy could happen within a family home.

The incident has also renewed concerns about violence involving children and the need for early intervention whenever families face serious challenges.

Police have assured the public that all circumstances surrounding the deaths and injuries will be investigated, while the suspect remains under medical care and police supervision.
