National Unity Platform (NUP) President Robert Kyagulanyi, alias Bobi Wine, has warned that his party is not safe from President Yoweri Museveni’s infiltration.

Kyagulanyi made the remarks on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, while addressing the media at the party’s headquarters in Kamwokya, Kampala.

He cited the recent cases of Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party president Patrick Amuriat and party secretary general Nandala Mafabi fighting with Ibrahim Ssemujju, the party spokesperson, over sh300m allegedly received from Museveni.

Kyagulanyi said Museveni has a history of infiltrating opposition parties and buying off their leaders. He said he has seen this happen with the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) and the Democratic Party (DP).

“I don’t think that NUP is really safe from Museveni’s infiltration,” Kyagulanyi said. “We have to be very careful.”

He also said that some leaders within NUP have already been compromised. He cited the examples of Njeru Municipality MP Jimmy Lwanga and Bukoto South MP Dr Twaha Kagabo, who he said have sold out to Museveni.

Kyagulanyi urged Ugandans who are seeking change not to give up. He said that there are still many right-thinking leaders in the opposition who are committed to fighting for change.

He also expressed displeasure towards the World Bank, which he said is only holding back on loans to Uganda because of the signing of the Anti-Homosexuality bill. He said that the World Bank should also look at the rights of all Ugandans, not just the rights of gays.

Finally, Kyagulanyi said that Kawempe North MP Muhammad Ssegirinya is undergoing medical review in the Netherlands. He said that the party is still trying to ascertain what is wrong with him and how they can help him.
