Former Speaker of Parliament and Bukedea Woman Member of Parliament Annet Anita Among has broken her silence after reports that she has been freed from restrictions at her Nakasero residence, expressing gratitude to President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for what she described as mercy and forgiveness.
Among, who had remained away from public appearances for several months, thanked God for what she called the restoration of her freedom and praised President Museveni for extending what she described as a parental gesture.
In a message shared through her social media platforms, the former Speaker said she was grateful for the opportunity to continue with her duties and appreciated the decision that allowed her to return to her normal political engagements.
“I take this opportunity to thank the Almighty God for the gift of life and freedom. My profound and heartfelt appreciation goes to His Excellency, President Yoweri Kaguta, for his unmatched parental grace and decision to grant me mercy,” Among said.
The Bukedea legislator also extended her appreciation to the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, whom she credited for maintaining professionalism during the period she was under restrictions.
Among said she would continue representing the people of Bukedea District as their Member of Parliament and remain committed to the leadership of President Museveni.
Her statement came after months of political uncertainty that followed her sudden fall from one of the most powerful positions in the country as Speaker of Parliament.

Among had previously been expected to return as Speaker of the 12th Parliament, but political developments later changed the race after the Patriotic League of Uganda withdrew its support for her.
The group instead backed West Budama Central MP Jacob Oboth Oboth for Speaker, while Thomas Tayebwa was supported for the position of Deputy Speaker.
The change marked a major shift in Uganda’s political landscape, considering Among had become one of the most influential figures in Parliament during her tenure as Speaker.
Her political troubles attracted public attention after questions emerged over her wealth, lifestyle and allegations surrounding her leadership period.
Reports indicated that security agencies carried out searches at properties linked to her as authorities examined documents, electronic devices and other items during the investigations.
The developments created uncertainty over whether the former Speaker would face prosecution or further legal action over allegations that had been raised against her.
However, no court proceedings were initiated against her, and her supporters welcomed the latest developments as a chance for her to return to political activity.
Among’s supporters have continued to defend her record, arguing that she remains an important figure in Uganda’s political system and has contributed to development efforts in Bukedea.

Her critics, however, have continued to question how cases involving powerful political figures are handled and whether accountability is applied equally.
The situation has renewed debate among Ugandans about the fight against corruption, justice and the role of political influence in determining the outcome of investigations.
Despite the controversies surrounding her leadership, Among has maintained that she remains loyal to the ruling National Resistance Movement and committed to serving Ugandans.
Her return to public life now places her back at the centre of political discussions as she resumes her role as a legislator.
The former Speaker’s message signals her intention to move forward and focus on representing her constituents while maintaining her relationship with the country’s leadership.
As she returns to Parliament, many Ugandans will continue watching how her political journey unfolds following one of the most challenging periods of her career.
