Lira City Woman Member of Parliament Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng has strongly denied claims that former Speaker of Parliament Anita Annet Among financed her 2026 election campaign.
Aceng dismissed the allegations as false, saying her political success was achieved through the support, trust and affection she received from the people of Lango during the election period.
The legislator made the remarks while speaking at a memorial service held in honour of the late Aya Joyce Otim, where she addressed several issues surrounding her political journey and the support she received from voters.
According to Aceng, claims that her campaign was financially backed by Among were being spread by people attempting to create a false picture about how she secured victory in the 2026 elections.
She insisted that the people of Lango played the biggest role in her political success, arguing that their overwhelming support gave her the confidence and strength to contest and eventually win the election.
Aceng said she remained grateful to the people who stood with her throughout the campaign and rejected suggestions that her victory was the result of financial assistance from another prominent politician.
The Lira City Woman MP described the allegations as nothing more than rumours, saying those spreading them were trying to undermine the relationship between her and the electorate.

She maintained that her political journey has been built on her service to the people and the confidence they have continued to place in her leadership.
Aceng said she had worked with communities in Lango for years and believed that voters understood her record, commitment and contribution to the region.
She argued that the support she received during the election campaign was visible across the constituency and could not simply be attributed to financial backing from an individual.
The minister-turned-legislator also appealed to her supporters and the public not to be distracted by what she described as unfounded allegations circulating about her campaign.
She said political leaders should instead concentrate on serving the people who elected them rather than engaging in unnecessary fights over rumours and accusations.
Aceng further noted that elections are ultimately decided by voters, stressing that the people of Lango had the final say when they went to the polls.
She said her victory therefore belonged to the electorate who believed in her leadership and chose to support her candidature.
The legislator also expressed appreciation to the people who mobilised and campaigned for her, saying their efforts demonstrated the strong bond she shares with communities across Lango.

Her comments come at a time when political discussions surrounding the 2026 elections have intensified, with different claims emerging about how various candidates financed their campaigns.
Aceng urged people to distinguish between political rumours and facts, particularly when discussing the reputations of public figures and elected leaders.
She reiterated that she had not relied on Anita Among to finance her campaign and that attributing her victory to such assistance was unfair to the voters who supported her.
The Lira City Woman MP said she would remain focused on representing her constituents and contributing to the development of Lira and the wider Lango sub-region.
She added that the trust of the electorate was more valuable to her than claims about political or financial backing from powerful individuals.
Aceng concluded by thanking the people of Lango for standing with her and reaffirming that their support, love and confidence were the foundation of her 2026 election victory.
