KAMPALA, Uganda – Equity Bank Uganda is transforming the way businesses manage their finances through Equity Online for Business, a modern digital banking platform launched in April 2026 to help enterprises bank smarter, faster and more securely.

The platform, which replaced the bank’s long-serving EazzyBiz internet banking system, was developed in response to changing business needs and customer feedback.

According to Immaculate Asiimwe, Head of Payments and Channels at Equity Bank Uganda, the bank chose to build an entirely new solution rather than upgrade the previous platform, ensuring it meets the demands of modern businesses ranging from small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to large corporations.

“The digital banking landscape has changed significantly, and our customers consistently told us that the old platform no longer met their evolving business needs. We therefore built a completely new platform designed around what businesses need today and in the future,” Asiimwe said.

Designed for Modern Businesses

Equity Online for Business offers a wide range of services that simplify financial management while reducing paperwork and the need for physical branch visits.

Among its standout features is payroll processing, enabling businesses to pay employees directly into bank accounts or mobile money wallets from a single platform. This feature is particularly beneficial for SMEs employing casual workers who may not have bank accounts.

The platform also supports real-time local and international money transfers, supplier payments, statutory payments to institutions such as the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and National Social Security Fund (NSSF), real-time account statements, and management of multi-currency accounts.

For larger organizations, the platform offers Host-to-Host integration, allowing businesses to connect directly with their accounting or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for automatic reconciliation.

Saving Time and Improving Efficiency

Traditionally, many businesses processed salaries manually, printed cheque instructions and frequently visited banking halls to complete transactions.

With Equity Online for Business, payroll files can now be uploaded electronically, payments approved online, and transactions completed within minutes.

According to Asiimwe, this has significantly reduced administrative work, allowing businesses to focus more on growth and productivity.

Accessible Anywhere

Businesses must have an operating account with Equity Bank to access the platform, as it serves as the source of funds for all transactions.

However, payments can be made to accounts held at other banks as well as directly to mobile money wallets, offering flexibility for businesses dealing with different financial institutions.

The platform is accessible through both a web portal and a mobile application, allowing business owners and authorized managers to approve transactions securely even while travelling.

Smooth Customer Migration

Equity Bank adopted a phased approach while transitioning customers from the previous EazzyBiz platform.

Existing active users were migrated first and provided with practical training before using the new system. The bank also reached out to former users who had abandoned the previous platform due to its limitations, introducing them to the improved features.

This approach helped ensure minimal disruption during the migration process.

Strong Customer Adoption

The platform has already recorded encouraging uptake among business customers.

According to Equity Bank, about 70 percent of corporate customers are actively using Equity Online for Business, while approximately 35 percent of SME customers have already enrolled.

The bank expects SME adoption to continue growing as more businesses become aware of the platform’s capabilities.

Digital Banking on the Rise

Since its launch, Equity Online for Business has registered impressive growth.

The bank reports that transaction volumes and values have increased by approximately 60 percent, while customer adoption has risen by around 40 percent compared to the previous platform.

Asiimwe says the figures demonstrate that businesses readily embrace digital banking solutions when they address real operational challenges.

Customer-Centered Features

Among the most appreciated features is the platform’s dashboard, which provides customers with a complete view of all business accounts, balances and recent transactions from a single screen.

Users have also welcomed the platform’s real-time account statements, payroll management, international transfers, multi-currency capabilities and ERP integration.

According to the bank, these features were introduced directly in response to customer feedback collected during the platform’s development.

Built for Businesses of All Sizes

Rather than creating separate platforms for SMEs and large corporations, Equity Bank developed one flexible system that can be tailored to each customer’s needs.

While SMEs typically require payroll processing and everyday account management, larger organizations benefit from advanced capabilities such as ERP integration, multi-user approval workflows and complex financial controls.

The platform allows businesses to activate services based on their operational requirements while supporting future expansion.

Strong Security Measures

With cybersecurity becoming increasingly important, Equity Bank says security was built into the platform from the outset.

The system incorporates multiple layers of protection, including multi-factor authentication, one-time passwords, security tokens and role-based approval processes that prevent a single individual from initiating and approving sensitive transactions.

The bank’s Information Security teams continuously monitor the platform and regularly update its security systems to counter emerging cyber threats.

Supporting Regional and International Trade

As cross-border business continues to grow across East Africa, Equity Online for Business enables customers to conduct real-time local, regional and international transfers while accessing live foreign exchange rates and managing multiple currencies from a single platform.

This helps businesses complete international transactions faster and manage cross-border trade more efficiently.

More Innovations on the Way

Equity Bank is already working on the next phase of the platform, which will introduce digital trade finance services, online loan applications and additional corporate banking capabilities.

The bank also plans to integrate machine learning technology to provide personalized financial management tools, including reminders for recurring payments, automated identification of routine transactions and smarter financial insights.

Getting Started

Businesses interested in using Equity Online for Business simply need to open or maintain an operating account with Equity Bank Uganda.

Customers can register by visiting any Equity Bank branch, contacting the Customer Contact Centre or speaking to their relationship manager. After completing the onboarding process, the bank configures user profiles, activates the required services and provides practical training to ensure businesses begin using the platform confidently from the first day.
