According to the latest update, the King’s remains are expected to travel through Qatar and Nairobi before reaching Uganda.

The body is reportedly scheduled to depart Nairobi at about 8:30am and arrive at Entebbe International Airport at approximately 10:00am. Upon arrival, it is expected to be received by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni before being airlifted to Kyegegwa.

The planned movement marks a significant stage in arrangements following the death of the Tooro monarch, whose passing has triggered mourning across the kingdom and attracted tributes from political, cultural and religious leaders.

The details indicate that authorities and the royal family have been coordinating the transportation of the King’s remains through several transit points before the body reaches Uganda.

Kyegegwa is expected to play an important role in the initial reception of the remains as the kingdom proceeds with arrangements for the burial and other official ceremonies.

King Oyo, who ascended the Tooro throne as a child following the death of his father, Omukama Patrick Matthew Kaboyo Olimi III, in 1995, became one of Uganda’s most prominent cultural leaders.

His reign spanned more than three decades, during which he grew from a young monarch into an influential cultural figure. Throughout his reign, he was associated with efforts aimed at promoting the development of the Tooro Kingdom, particularly in areas such as education, health, culture, tourism and youth empowerment.

His death has also renewed public interest in the future leadership of the kingdom and the traditional processes surrounding succession.

However, members of the royal family and senior kingdom officials have repeatedly called for calm and restraint as consultations and official arrangements continue.

The transportation of the King’s remains to Uganda is therefore expected to pave the way for the next phase of funeral preparations, including official ceremonies and the eventual burial.

The reported reception at Entebbe by President Museveni would also underscore the national significance attached to the death of the Tooro monarch.

As the body makes its way home, thousands of mourners in Tooro and elsewhere in Uganda are expected to follow the proceedings closely, with further details on the funeral programme and burial arrangements expected to be communicated by the royal family and kingdom authorities.

For the people of Tooro, the return of King Oyo’s remains represents a deeply emotional moment as the kingdom prepares to bid farewell to a monarch who occupied the throne for more than 30 years.
