Nansana Municipality MP Zambaali Bulasio Mukasa has attracted praise from residents after demonstrating what he described as a people-centred approach to leadership by sharing his first parliamentary salary with some of the people who supported him and residents in his constituency.

The legislator’s gesture has been welcomed by supporters who say it reflects a different approach to political leadership, particularly at a time when elected leaders are often criticised for becoming disconnected from the communities that helped them reach Parliament.

Rather than treating his first salary as a personal milestone, Zambaali chose to share part of it with people who stood with him during his political journey and members of the community.

The move has strengthened his image among supporters as a leader who remembers the people behind his success and remains connected to the grassroots.

For Zambaali, however, supporting his constituents goes beyond giving out money.

The Nansana Municipality MP has also established the **Zambaali SACCO**, an initiative aimed at helping residents organise themselves financially, access opportunities and improve their livelihoods.

The SACCO is intended to provide constituents with a platform through which they can save, access financial support and invest in activities capable of improving their household incomes.

The initiative is particularly significant because sustainable community development requires more than occasional handouts. By encouraging residents to organise and develop their own financial capacity, the SACCO could help create a more lasting foundation for economic empowerment.

Zambaali’s approach has therefore attracted attention because it combines personal generosity with an attempt to establish a structured mechanism through which constituents can support themselves.

His decision to share his first parliamentary salary has also been interpreted by supporters as a symbolic gesture of appreciation to the people who entrusted him with the responsibility of representing Nansana Municipality.

For many politicians, the first parliamentary salary can represent the beginning of a new chapter after winning an election. Zambaali, however, chose to use the moment to recognise the people who contributed to his political journey.

His supporters argue that such gestures demonstrate the importance of maintaining a relationship with voters even after elections are over.

At the same time, the establishment of the Zambaali SACCO points to a broader vision of empowering constituents economically rather than leaving them dependent on individual assistance.

The initiative comes at a time when communities across Uganda are increasingly turning to savings groups and SACCOs as tools for accessing capital and starting or expanding small businesses.

Zambaali’s supporters say they hope the SACCO will grow into a strong community-based economic platform capable of benefiting more residents across Nansana Municipality.

With his salary-sharing gesture and the creation of a SACCO, Zambaali is presenting himself as a legislator who wants his leadership to be measured not only by speeches in Parliament, but also by the practical impact he can make in the lives of the people he represents.
